Review
It comes as no surprise that the company did not use their budget to produce another performance of their own but seized the opportunity to place their own artistic position in a discursive framework. Their self-conceived pieces deal with the "popular cultural masses", as they say. In their artistic practice they prefer to "sample, quote, cover". They mistrust the original. Berlin-based theater scholar Mieke Matzke spoke about this as a possibilities of political theater. She was also the only one to refer to the term "ambient theater". A term Knut Ove Arntzen coined to describe the work of the Norwegian company Bak–Truppen. In their performances, the stage is no longer constituted as a space that is separated from the backstage and side stages and from the auditorium. The themes are just as permeable as the spatial boundaries; it is a matter of "recycling messages and information".
