Magic Thing
A walk-by opera after "The Magic Flute" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
A colorful snake moves through Giessen and makes its way through the thicket of the "Magic Flute" plot. It is accompanied by two likeable rascals: the romantically confused Tamino and his unconventional companion Papageno. More and more musicians join the snake and set off in search of the kidnapped Pamina. But to free her, they have to pass a few tests!
Premiere: September 28th, 2024 (for audiences 8 ys. and older)
Big Trouble in Zauberflötentown
"Big Trouble In Zauberflötentown" is the outdoor performance for the musical theater production "Zauberdings" by Showcase Beat Le Mot. We explore Giessen's urban space with our portable giant snake. A futuristic aviary is being created in the botanical garden behind the Statdtheater Gießen, which is a theater laboratory, concert hall, hangout, meeting point, chamber of wonders and testing ground for the bird-man Papageno. In the aviary in the style of Buckminster Fuller, saz instrumentalists and a children's and youth choir meet, local actors from Giessen's migrant music scene meet with young people from the city to participate in our production and help shape it. Thematically, we negotiate questions of migration, nomadism, animal husbandry, colonization and the growing up of young people.
Premiere: July, 21st, 2024 (for audiences 8 ys. and older)
