Gomune
Gomune is a performance series that takes place at different locations (theaters, clubs) over a longer period of time and without fixed venues. The evenings are loosely based on the narrative structure and single episodes of a comic, which tells the story of Ogami Itto's journey through Edo period Japan. In addition to contemporary techniques in lighting, video and music, stylistic elements of Noh and Kabuki are adapted (masks, choreography, music etc.). Elements from a variety of art traditions form a performance style that progresses so far that red wool threads are blood splatters, that a stroposcope in slow motion can replace the panels of a manga, and that the road to hell is beautiful.
Gomune is an old Japanese word for actors who earn their money on the street.

Review
„The former executioner of the Shogun, Ogami Itto, has lost his honor and status due to an intrigue. He now wanders through Edo period Japan with his son, seeking revenge as a samurai. Action follows narrative. Play, dance and images develop spontaneously now on a stage to the left, then to the right of the audience....A highly intelligent realization of manga impressions with simple means. Theater becomes a total work of art. 'Gomune' is an all-encompassing event in which the audience sensually participates in the group's playfulness and imagination. .....“
