The Robber Hotzenplotz (based on the novels by Otfried Preußler)
After a seven-year break, The Robber Hotzenplotz is back in the legendary interpretation by the performance collective Showcase Beat Le Mot. Kasperl and Seppel had done a great job: Hotzenplotz and everything that belongs to him was trapped in a cage for seven years, walled up behind stage sets and flight cases. Like Voldemort, or Sauron, or ... well, maybe everything a bit smaller. 2023 the production celebrates a long-awaited revival and returns with well seasoned deep grooves and funky magic. And once again the most cunning highway-man in the history of German children's books shows people aged 6 and over his world as the only alternative to the one here.
Developed as a commissioned work for the Berlin children‘s theater Theater an der Parkaue in 2007, the successful production has been performed almost 200 times in Germany and abroad, has been highly acclaimed and won several awards. To make Showcase Beat Le Mot's twisted universe accessible to even more people, the performance can be performed with translation in sign language.
Commissioned 2007 by the Theater an der Parkaue, "Der Räuber Hotzenplotz" is our first children's play. It has won several awards and has had almost 200 performances in Germany and abroad. The play is carried by the commentary songs and our abstract approach to the numerous characters of the original text, which are placed in the space like furniture and are used according to the narrative requirements. We make a compromise between the possibilities of city theater and the need for coherence of a young audience.

Reviews
At the theater festival Impulse "Der Räuber Hotzenplotz" received the Goethe-Institut Award for Theatre
The jury's statement: „Showcase Beat Le Mot has succeeded in telling the well-known children's book classic in an utterly alternative way. With great charm, using all legal and semi-legal theatrical means, such as illusion, disillusion, magic, irony, dance and song, they reconstruct the story of Hotzenplotz stealing coffee grinders together with their young accomplices in the audience. They take the children seriously without pandering to them. And in doing so, they dispel all the clichés that children previously might have had in their heads from old school music cassettes and movies.“
„….Someone at Theater an der Parkaue came up with the absolutely absurd, and therefore all the more grandiose, idea of commissioning the performance group Showcase Beat Le Mot - those four friendly people - with this snuff box piece ….“
